Brake disc 164-30195
BlackSteel brake discs are CNC machined using state-of-the-art technology from a one-piece forging.
When forging the metal, a directed grain flow is created, which follows the contour of the disc. This allows for a much stronger disc where the risk of cracks and catastrophic failures associated with inferior welded constructions is lower.
The proprietary heat treatment of APS has a dual purpose. The heat treatment strengthens the steel by binding carbon, oxygen and nitrogen in the top metal layer. This is not a coating that can wear out because the steel itself is converted. The heat treatment gives the steel its black appearance and gives the surface a high resistance to corrosion and oxidation, which is accompanied by the extreme temperature changes in aircraft braking systems. This makes it an excellent choice for agricultural aircraft operating in a harsh chemical environment, as well as for anyone who leaves their aircraft outside most of the time.
